GARLIC CHEESE BISCUITS | WEIGHT WATCHERS

These Garlic Cheese Biscuits are 3 SmartPoints per biscuit on Weight Watchers Blue plan, Purple plan and the old Freestyle plan. They are 4 SmartPoints on the Green plan.

They are so simple to make, using just 4 ingredients!

Delicious eaten warm, straight out of the oven as a tasty low SmartPoint snack.

Alternatively, serve them with a WW friendly soup or as a side to a warming casserole.

I then add about half of the yogurt, mix with a fork to combine it and then add the rest of the yogurt spoonful by spoonful until the dough has reached the right consistency.

The dough can be sticky and difficult to work with (especially if you are used to working with a yeasty dough!) but it doesn’t need kneading so all you need to do is mould it into the shape that you want it to be and bake it.

Try not to use too much extra flour on your surface or on your hands – it is tempting but that can lead to the dough becoming stiff and then becoming dense when you bake it.

Having said all of this – two ingredient dough really isn’t difficult to master.

 have tried lots of different yogurts & have found that most work as long as I follow the tips above!

For WW obviously you need to use fat free natural yogurt or fat free Greek yogurt for the SmartPoints to be correct.

WHAT CHEESE SHOULD I USE?

Twenty grams (or approx 3 level tbsps) of most grated reduced fat cheddar cheeses works out at 1 SmartPoints – which is what I used for these Garlic Cheese biscuits.

I use the sharpest / most mature reduced fat cheddar cheese that I can find as this gives these biscuits the most ‘cheesy’ flavour!

GARLIC POWDER, GARLIC GRANULES OR GARLIC SALT?

I used garlic powder in this recipe.

If you use garlic granules it brings the SmartPoints up to 4 SmartPoints per biscuit on each plan!

Using 1 tsp of garlic salt would make this recipe too salty (in my opinion) so I’d suggest halving that amount and also omitting the salt from the dough recipe!

HOW I WORKED OUT THE SMARTPOINTS

Using the official WW recipe builder I have worked out the SmartPoints for these Garlic & Cheese Biscuits for each of the plans.

  • Freestyle Plan  –  3 SmartPoint per biscuit
  • myWW Blue Plan  –  3 SmartPoint per biscuit
  • myWW Purple Plan  –  3 SmartPoint per biscuit
  • myWW Green Plan  –  4 SmartPoints per biscuit

Please note that the nutritional information in the recipe card below has been automatically generated and will give you an inaccurate SmartPoint value.  

This is because it does not account for any of the zero point ingredients on the WW plan. Nor does it account for variations in product brands and types, weights of individual ingredients etc.

Garlic & Cheese Biscuits | Weight Watchers

These Weight Watcher friendly Garlic & Cheese biscuits are simple to make. They work out as 3 SmartPoints on the Blue, Purple and old Freestyle plans and 4 SmartPoints on the Green plan.

INGREDIENTS US CustomaryMetric 1x2x3x

  • 1 scant cup self raising flour (120g) *{see tips below if using All Purpose Flour}
  • ¾ cup fat free natural yogurt (I usually use 0% fat FAGE) (185g)
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 3 tbsp reduced fat cheddar cheese (shredded) (20g)

INSTRUCTIONS 

  • PLEASE read the notes / tips below about 2 ingredient dough & yogurt before you start!
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F / 200°C / 180°C fan
  • Place the flour in a bowl and add the salt and the garlic powder and mix to combine.
  • Add about half of the yogurt & mix to combine using a fork.
  • Add the rest of the yogurt spoonful by spoonful until the dough is sticky but not so sticky it sticks to the edges of the bowl.
  • You may not use all of the yogurt or you may need some extra – the success of two ingredient dough is getting the dough into a consistency that it is wet but not too wet that it sticks to everything & is unworkable.
  • Lightly flour your work surface and tip out the dough.
  • Using lightly floured hands, pat the dough out into a circle.
  • Use a 3 inch cookie cutter to cut out 4 biscuits. You may find it easier to lightly flour this too!
  • Carefully place the biscuits on a non stick cookie sheet.
  • Divide the grated cheese equally between the tops of the four biscuits.
  • Bake in the centre of the oven for 15 minutes or until the biscuits have risen, turned golden brown and the cheese has melted and turned golden brown.
  • Enjoy & remember to track!

NOTES

* A scant cup of flour is a cup of flour that is just a little under 1 cups worth and that is not packed!* If you don’t have self raising flour you can use all purpose flour – just add 1 ½ tsps of baking powder and ¼ tsp of salt to the cup of all purpose flour.* I suggest using the strongest flavoured cheddar cheese that you can find – I use WW grated mature cheese or reduced fat mature cheese in this recipe.* If you are using FAGE or another thickish yogurt you might find there is a little watery liquid on the top. I would suggest draining this off the yogurt first rather than mixing it in. I don’t know why this works but it seems to!* I have found that different yogurts give different ‘stickiness’ results with 2 ingredient dough. That is why I have suggested that you add about half of the yogurt, mix then add the rest spoonful by spoonful.* If you do have to use more than ¾ cup of yogurt then don’t worry – it won’t affect the overall SmartPoint value of the biscuits – even on Green!
